Ride to Fight Cancer

This fantastic virtual event saw 1,580 lycra-clad Peter Mac supporters get on their bikes and pedal out against cancer. Every year we are so inspired by the stories of our first-time riders and those who have come back year after year to make a difference.

This fantastic virtual event saw 1,580 lycra-clad Peter Mac supporters get on their bikes and pedal out against cancer. Every year we are so inspired by the stories of our first-time riders and those who have come back year after year to make a difference.

For some of our participants, it’s about honouring those we love. Long-time participant, Mal, participated in his 10th Peter Mac event this year. We asked him what inspires him to give so much to fight cancer.

“My older brother, Greg, died of bowel cancer at the age of 47. He is the reason why I raise money for Peter Mac. Raising money for cancer research to find cures helps make some sense of his passing – otherwise it is only pain and grief and a tragic loss of life for no reason.”

For other participants, it’s about celebrating achievements that have led us to this point. Rider Robert, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2018 and has undergone many different treatments at Peter Mac all whilst staying as fit and healthy as he can.

“I cycle to the hospital every Monday for chemo and then ride home (a 20km round trip). My RIDE was to raise awareness of the fantastic work that Peter Mac does. More awareness will hopefully lead to more donations, which in turn will lead to more research that will hopefully lead to a cure for the cancer I now have. So I want to be part of that!”

Together our amazing community raised an incredible $533,000 for life-saving cancer research, which will go a long way towards accelerating research towards cancer cures.

We are so grateful to everyone who rode, fundraised and donated to our first Ride to Fight Cancer.
