Doing It For Doc

25 February 2022

In October, Carlton Football Club set up their #DoingItForDoc fundraiser in support of their co-captain Sam Docherty who was undergoing treatment at Peter Mac for testicular cancer.

What started out as a mission to raise $5,000 for Peter Mac through head shaves among the team turned into a mammoth $219,000 raised, with Blues players and many supporters (and footy fans who put rivalry aside for a good cause) donating and shaving their heads.

Sam, who revealed in August this year that his testicular cancer had returned, was “overwhelmed” at the outpouring of support.

“I can’t believe the amount of support and generosity we are receiving for Peter Mac.

I have experienced firsthand the amazing work that the nurses and doctors do every single day and I am proud to be able to help raise money and awareness for an incredible foundation. The money raised will have a significant impact on so many fights against all types of cancer.

What started as some mates wanting to show some support has turned into something I could never have imagined and I am speechless by the support of the wider community.

Thank you to everyone who took part, and to those who donated. We’re speechless for the generosity from everyone.”

Thank you to Sam Docherty and Carlton Football Club for their support in funding life-saving cancer research.
