You are helping to shine a new light on more ways to save lives

Con Tam

Professor Constantine (Con) Tam is a leading expert in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) and Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Specialising in Low Grade Lymphoma and CLL, his team has been instrumental in multiple recent advances.

Con’s work has led to therapies for blood cancers that are more effective than traditional chemotherapy, with fewer side-effects. In 2020, Con is continuing to research significant advances in treatment.

His work provides the exciting potential to cure what were once incurable cancers.

“This year, I am excited to be working on the chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR T-cell) program, which harvests the power of the immune system to destroy and potentially cure cancers that are currently incurable.

“This is a new, powerful platform of treatment that has only just appeared on the scene and is already showing amazing results in selected patients.”

New breakthroughs in cancer research are desperately needed. Con and his team are shining a light on a new approach to combination therapies.

“This research is important as the current tools against cancer – chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery and targeted drugs – are not sufficient to cure cancer in many patients. By using the body’s immune system to attack and destroy cancer, we harvest nature’s way of controlling cancer cells in our bodies and address the very defect that led to the formation of the cancer in the first place.”

It’s thanks to generous supporters like you that research like this could significantly alter the impact of a cancer diagnosis on a patient’s life.
