Welcome to Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation

Together, we can find new and better ways to prevent, detect and treat cancers

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is internationally recognised for helping to lead the search for cancer cures, and is Australia's only public hospital solely dedicated to caring for people affected by cancer. We support this vital work by funding new research opportunities, and providing researchers with access to the specialised resources they need to discover cures for cancer.

“Every day I think of how lucky I am to be alive, but my heart goes out to all those who aren’t so lucky. Together, I believe people like you and I can leave a life-saving legacy by funding the cancer research that finds more cures to all cancers.”

Geoff With Matilda Geoff pictured with therapy dog Matilda!

Geoff’s cancer journey began in 2011, after he noticed a small lump on his neck.

Three days later, doctors diagnosed him with Cancer of an Unknown Primary (CUP), a rare cancer with a 5% survival rate beyond three years.

“Being told I have cancer was terrifying, indescribable really unless you have experienced it. But from my very first very encounter with Peter Mac people I developed a sense of calm and hope. Doctors, nurses, allied health staff, specialist treatment clinicians, admin staff all displayed a sense of care, compassion, professionalism and openness and honesty.”

Geoff underwent treatment at Peter Mac over seven weeks. To maintain a sense of normalcy in his own life, Geoff kept working – right up until he literally couldn’t anymore.

“I was among the lucky 5% who had survived. And thanks to Peter Mac’s incredible research into more effective treatments, I have lived long beyond my original three-year prognosis.”

Geoff has experienced firsthand the impact cancer research has for people like himself and has chosen to leave a gift in his Wil to Peter Mac.

“It made my decision to include a gift in my Will easy, because I can see that what they’re doing is working.

“I’ve experienced it for myself, and I’ve seen the numbers. Cancer survival rates are going up, and I know that as a Friend for Life, I can help ensure they keep going up.

“Peter Mac has become such an important part of my life. But I’m a Friend for Life because I’m looking forward to a world where places like Peter Mac don’t need to exist at all –because we’ve already beaten cancer. If you do decide to leave a gift in your Will to Peter Mac, I reckon our legacy can help make that dream a reality.”

For this week, 2-8 September we’ve partnered with Safewill – Australia’s leading online Will writing platform – to offer you the opportunity to write your own bespoke Will for FREE from 2 – 8 September, saving you $160.
