Maddi’s legacy and the power of community

In June 2024, the North Central Netball Association (NCNA), in partnership with the North Central Football League (NCFL) and North Central Hockey Association (NCHA), united to host Maddi’s Round, a fundraising and awareness event dedicated to the memory of Maddison "Maddi" Fitzpatrick.
Maddi was a dedicated and much valued member of Charlton Netball Club and the North Central Community. Passionate about both netball and her community, she had been involved as a player, coach, umpire, committee member and volunteer. Sadly, Maddi passed away in March 2024, 10 months after she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma (Rhabdo).
With a theme of “No One Fights Alone”, Maddi’s Round saw the local community banding together to support cancer research, celebrate Maddi’s life and honour the deep legacy she left with her beloved netball club. People wore lavender, the universal colour of all cancers, and a touch of green, Maddi’s favourite colour.
A minute’s silence was observed before the senior games to honour those in the community affected by cancer.
The day was a triumph and an incredible display of the power of community. Maddi’s Round succeeded in raising an impressive $15,008.02 to support vital cancer research. A highlight was the auctioning of game balls, with one ball fetching $2,000. This ball was later gifted to Maddi’s parents as a keepsake.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the North Central Netball Association (NCNA), the North Central Football League (NCFL), the North Central Hockey Association (NCHA), the Nullawil Football Netball Club, the Birchip Watchem Football Club and everyone who supported this fundraiser, in honour of Maddi. The funds raised will play a vital role in accelerating cancer research and improving health outcomes for all people affected by cancer.
