Community fundraiser Innes takes a big drive against a rare cancer
05 December 2024
A rare skin cancer diagnosis led Innes, a franchise owner of The House of Golf, to create an annual golf charity day to raise funds for research into this condition.
Innes was diagnosed with mycosis fungoides, a type of skin lymphoma that only Peter Mac and few other hospitals in Australia can diagnose and treat. Nicknaming it “the bloody rash”, Innes’ cancer was at its worst when he first presented to Peter Mac.
Thankful for the extraordinary compassion and care he received from his treatment team, Innes was moved to take action to help others affected by this condition.
“The doctors, specialists and the nurses were so comforting during my treatment.
“How could I not want to give back?”
Innes set out to raise funds for the Cutaneous Lymphoma Service at Peter Mac to support important research and initiatives in this area. In doing so, he organised The House of Golf Charity Challenge, which was held in October 2024 at the Kingston Heath Golf Club.
The House of Golf Charity Challenge was a huge success, raising over $70,300 for cancer research. Boasting an impressive range of sponsors and many generous prizes, a total of 110 players took part in this special event to support Innes’ fundraising efforts.
Innes has already booked another charity golf day for 2025 off the back of this success. He considers it an honour to fundraise for Peter Mac and to ultimately support crucial research into a rare condition.
“I hope with the money raised that in the future there may be earlier detection of my condition or even one day a cure.”
