Nola's Story

CS nola hero

“In March 2003, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was 49 years old and I couldn’t believe it.

I remember having to explain to my daughter Holly, 18, and my son Nick, 16, that I had cancer. I tried to be upbeat but I could see firstly the shock on their faces followed by fear.

There is no doubt in my mind that without the inspirational team at Peter Mac and their dedication, brilliance and compassion, I wouldn't be here today. My treating doctors and nurses were always and still are, there for me.

I am lucky, and never, ever take it for granted. Every day is a good day, no matter what.

In March 2013, my first grandchild was born during the tenth anniversary week of my original diagnosis. It is my wish for my granddaughter that she never has to ask “what is breast cancer and will I get it?”

With the support of people like you, I’m hopeful that Peter Mac can help eradicate this insidious disease once and for all.”
