Walk to Fight Cancer raises almost $1 million for Peter Mac

This year’s Walk to Fight Cancer saw 3,133 wonderful walkers take to the streets in October in support of the fight against cancer. Together they raised just under $1 MILLION to go towards cancer research at Peter Mac.
Every year we are so inspired by the stories of our first-time walkers and those who come back year after year to make a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer.
For some of our participants, Walk to Fight Cancer is a part of their current cancer journey. Caroline was diagnosed with a very rare bone marrow cancer in March this year. Undergoing gruelling treatment that left her fatigued and physically weak, she was determined to regain her fitness and strength, and decided to sign up for Walk to Fight Cancer.
“I am pleased to hear how inspired my clients, friends and family feel about my achievements, given how sick I have recently been. I am back to doing what I love… Being of service and enjoying life with my family and friends. It’s great to be able to inspire others and to make a difference at the same time by contributing to this important fundraiser for Peter Mac cancer research.”
For other participants, it's about walking in honour of loved ones in their life. Jasmine joined Walk to Fight Cancer in honour of her mum who is receiving treatment at Peter Mac.
“It can be difficult feeling helpless when a loved one is suffering, and I truly believe this challenge is a great way to help spread awareness and offer a supportive community for everyone. Whether you’re the fighter, caretaker, friend, daughter or just someone that wants to help change someone’s life.”
We are so lucky to have such an amazing community of supporters dedicated to helping ensure every person with cancer has the best chance of a cure.
Along with Ride to Fight Cancer, Walk to Fight Cancer has inspired and activated our community to raise nearly $1.5M in 2022. These funds are vital and will help give leading Peter Mac researchers the specialised technologies and resources they need to discover cancer cures.
