As 2025 draws to an end, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation is taking the opportunity to reflect on the year that has been.
Once again, what shines through is the extraordinary generosity of our community, whose compassion and support helps to shape a brighter future for people affected by cancer.
Here are some of the ways your support made a difference for cancer research in 2025:
- 26 research projects were awarded funding through our Foundation Grants program, providing an initial funding boost for promising new research ideas.
- Three Peter Mac clinician-researchers were awarded Discovery Partner Fellowships, funded by the generosity of our Discovery Partners.
- The Lea Medal was awarded to two talented early to mid-career women in research at Peter Mac, providing support for their careers and their important cancer research
- Long-read DNA sequencing technology was installed at Peter Mac, providing families with clearer answers about their genetic risk of cancer.
Other highlights of 2025 include:
- The 30th annual Peter Mac Cup, held in April, raised over $382,000 for cancer research. Special thanks to the Pratt Foundation, Strathmore Community Bank, and of course, Collingwood FC and Carlton FC for making this game one to remember.
- The Gamma Knife, a cutting-edge piece of equipment purchased with Foundation support in 2021, treated its 1,000th patient this year.
- Many incredible people from across the community went above and beyond in fundraising for Peter Mac in a variety of ways – community events, fitness challenges, and so many other inspiring fundraising activities.
Peter Mac Foundation CEO, Craig Connelly, shares the following note of gratitude for everyone who supported Peter Mac in 2025.
“The generosity and passion of Peter Mac supporters in 2025 has been truly amazing to behold.
“Whether it was a donation, a gift in their will, volunteering, running a marathon, rallying the community, or simply sharing your story – every supporter has played a vital role in driving lifesaving cancer research.
“On behalf of the researchers, clinicians and, most importantly, all people affected by cancer: thank you for supporting Peter Mac in 2025. Your kindness makes a meaningful impact on the lives of everyone affected by cancer.
“Wishing you all a happy holiday season and a wonderful 2026.”
